A special friend visited me yesterday and we talked for hours. These 2 baby quilts went home with her for her 2 newest grandsons. The older brother of one of them has a flannel quilt I sent to my friend when he was born and he is very possessive of his quilt. Now his brother and cousin will have their own flannel quilts and won't need to try to get his. I bet they will love theirs too.
Flannel log baby quilt is 38" square after finishing. Hobbs 80/20 batting.
Backing and binding are Moda brushed fabric which is like flannel but more like the weight of regular quilting fabric.
Flannel 4" tumblers baby quilt is 39.5" square after finishing. I cut the tumblers with my die cutter while cleaning up from making another flannel quilt last year. It made for a fast quilt with pieces ready to use. Hobbs 80/20 batting.
The backing and binding are the same as on the log quilt pictured above.
I got another quilt back from the longarm quilter ... read more
Happy Friday! I hope you guys aren't tired of seeing all these Happy Quilt finishes. Three are a lot more blocks stacked around my house, so I am not stopping with these any time soon.
Happy Quilt #33 is this cute and colorful caterpillar quilt. Someone had sent the 16 Hungry Caterpillar blocks in red. I also received the cute caterpillar blocks in yellow to give me enough to make a quilt. I have been hoarding that rainbow sashing for years.
This quilt measures 39" x 48".
Nann had sent me the orange print on the back and binding ...

The second flannel baby quilt top is 4" tumblers. I decided to sew several identical sections of 6 tumblers before starting to design the quilt top.
Here is the start of the design process. I wrote my blog post before I finished sewing it together so I'll show the top tomorrow. I'll also work on my monthly recap. My photo editing program was acting up last night so I hope I don't have problems tonight. read more
I need a few baby quilts and I want them made of flannel. I had this box of strips in the basement. I figured it was all 2" strips but after piecing a few blocks I realized there were 2 widths of strips in there.
Since the blocks weren't all the same size I had to trim all of them to the size of the smallest block. Now there are 3 widths of strips since some edge strips are now narrower. When sewn this should be about 34" square. I think a 3" border will work and I could ... read more
I have some great news to share today!
There is a local agency called Bags of Love. I have mentioned them before because they are one of the places I donate kids' quilts. BOL makes and fills age appropriate bags for kids in crisis. These bags can include pajamas, underwear, toys, hygiene items, school supplies, etc. and each bag contains a quilt or warm blanket.
Because I donate to them, I get their newsletter. I was reading that they project to be 900 quilts short by the end of the year (yes, they give out that many bags!). Thanks to ...
read moreI started blocks for a Redwork quilt many, many years ago. I am embarrassed to say how long. Of course, we all have unfinished projects, and this is definitely one of mine. The pattern is children on the beach titled at the seashore by Marytime design. I chose a variety of white-on-white fabrics for the […]

Today I'm sharing Glimmer, a brand-new quilt pattern in 8 sizes! Glimmer is the first of five quilt patterns headed your way this Summer and Fall. They just keep a'coming!
So I got all the baby quilts done this week, labels and all! It felt really good to get these checked off the list.

Even though I had sewn the Hands2Help baby quilts for this year's challenge, for many reasons, could not get them quilted and bound in time for Sarah's deadline (Sarah told me not to worry). I did finally get them done and then mailed out using the Give Back box postage plan for Little Lambs of Utah and was relieved. I made one girl one and two boys. I used the same pattern (Scrap Jar Stars), but different fabrics. I quilted each one differently. They are about 50" x 50". I printed the butterfly on the label with a ...

Ready to the last little bit of handwork! |
I've been hand quilting every evening possible, trying to finish up this improv. strings quilt. It's going to be gifted to a nephew for a wedding gift and time is running out. Not that it has to be given by the wedding date. Oh no. I'm much more relaxed than that. It's just that I don't want to pay postage or risk having it get lost in the mail! So hopefully it will be all wrapped up by next week. Fingers crossed!
Only three more rows to stitch across the quilt! |
Ode To Joy is a true blue finish! The fourth finish of the year. I thoroughly enjoyed having this one in the hoop and I'm super happy about the finish. Just loving the unique look to this quilt!

Every year I try and complete some quilts for Sarah Craig's Hands to Help Challenge. This year, as last, I will send these 3 baby quilts to Little Lambs when completed. The great thing about them is they participate in a shipping service that lets me ship all them for one low price.
This year, I made one baby girl and two baby boys. I used the same design to make things quicker and easier. For a while, I have been making a scrap quilt called Scrap Jar Stars as a leader ender. When I started it, I made ...
Christine and I left early for our quilting retreat with the Oxford Guild this past Friday because there was a winter storm coming and we wanted to get there and be set up before the snow started to fall. The snow started in the afternoon and kept going all night. In the morning there was almost a foot of snow (30cm for the metric folks). We were all snowed in and loving it. We did not lose power and we had our sewing machines and lots of fabric and projects on hand to work on. It was a great weekend ...
