A visitor............ from Exuberant Color

A special friend visited me yesterday and we talked for hours.  These 2 baby quilts went home with her for her 2 newest grandsons.  The older brother of one of them has a flannel quilt I sent to my friend when he was born and he is very possessive of his quilt.  Now his brother and cousin will have their own flannel quilts and won't need to try to get his.  I bet they will love theirs too.

My great-children 6 hours away opened their I Spy quilt yesterday and they are already having a lot of fun exploring ...

'Tis the Season of Secret Projects from The Cozy Quilter

Last weekend, we went to visit our daughter and Finn.  On the way there and back, I hand stitched the binding on two quilts, the nautical themed comfort quilt I showed last week and this Whistlestop quilt.  I am very happy to have finished this quilt!  I have two more lap quilts pin basted, ready for quilting but they will have to wait until after the holidays for I am in the midst of making gifts that cannot be shown on my blog until after Christmas.

I did a bit of knitting most days this past week.  My scarf is ...

First 2 finishes for December 2023............ from Exuberant Color

Flannel log baby quilt is 38" square after finishing.  Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Backing and binding are Moda brushed fabric which is like flannel but more like the weight of regular quilting fabric.

Flannel 4" tumblers baby quilt is 39.5" square after finishing.  I cut the tumblers with my die cutter while cleaning up from making another flannel quilt last year.  It made for a fast quilt with pieces ready to use.  Hobbs 80/20 batting.

The backing and binding are the same as on the log quilt pictured above.

I got another quilt back from the longarm quilter ...

More Happy Quilt Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Happy Friday!  I hope you guys aren't tired of seeing all these Happy Quilt finishes.  Three are a lot more blocks stacked around my house, so I am not stopping with these any time soon.

Happy Quilt #33 is this cute and colorful caterpillar quilt.  Someone had sent the 16 Hungry Caterpillar blocks in red.  I also received the cute caterpillar blocks in yellow to give me enough to make a quilt.  I have been hoarding that rainbow sashing for years.

This quilt measures 39" x 48".

Nann had sent me the orange print on the back and binding ...

A sewing day................. from Exuberant Color

This flannel baby quilt top is sewn, border chosen, cut and sewn on.  Pressing tomorrow morning.

The second flannel baby quilt top is 4" tumblers.  I decided to sew several identical sections of 6 tumblers before starting to design the quilt top.

Here is the start of the design process.  I wrote my blog post before I finished sewing it together so I'll show the top tomorrow.  I'll also work on my monthly recap.  My photo editing program was acting up last night so I hope I don't have problems tonight.

Starting something new............... from Exuberant Color

I need a few baby quilts and I want them made of flannel.  I had this box of strips in the basement.  I figured it was all 2" strips but after piecing a few blocks I realized there were 2 widths of strips in there.

Since the blocks weren't all the same size I had to trim all of them to the size of the smallest block.  Now there are 3 widths of strips since some edge strips are now narrower.  When sewn this should be about 34" square.  I think a 3" border will work and I could ...

Architecture Class, Borders, Sunflowers, Christmas Bazaar and Knitting from The Cozy Quilter

Last Saturday, I took a zoom class with David Owen Hastings.  For the project, we were to each choose a picture of a building or structure to inspire our quilts. My husband and I visited Dunnottar Castle in Scotland a few years ago and I took lots of pictures there. The castle is mostly a ruin and my picture was of the end wall of the chapel.  We then used some paper frames to zero in on a particular part of our picture,  drew a pattern and made the quilt using three shades of solid fabrics and a pop of ...

Already Growing! from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have some great news to share today!

There is a local agency called Bags of Love.  I have mentioned them before because they are one of the places I donate kids' quilts.  BOL makes and fills age appropriate bags for kids in crisis.  These bags can include pajamas, underwear, toys, hygiene items, school supplies, etc.  and each bag contains a quilt or warm blanket.

Because I donate to them, I get their newsletter.  I was reading that they project to be 900 quilts short by the end of the year (yes, they give out that many bags!).  Thanks to ...

Modern Sampler Borders, Sunflowers, Ribbing, and a Class from The Cozy Quilter

In order to make my Modern Sampler quilt bed sized, I need to add borders.  I decided to make one of the borders pieced with 2.5" squares.  I cut out lots of squares and then made them into twosies.  Some of them have been sewn into longer chains but that's as far as I got this week.  Next time I sit down at the sewing machine, I will work on this again.

My Sunflower cross stitch is 3/4 done!  My goal of having this done by the end of October is achievable, I think.  I will keep ...

Redwork Quilt Blocks from Modern Sunbonnet Sue

I started blocks for a Redwork quilt many, many years ago. I am embarrassed to say how long. Of course, we all have unfinished projects, and this is definitely one of mine. The pattern is children on the beach titled at the seashore by Marytime design. I chose a variety of white-on-white fabrics for the […]

Picnic Plaid Baby or Wall Hanging Quilt in Picadilly from Busy Hands Quilts

Last but not least in the five Picnic Plaid quilts I've shared here on the blog is a Baby quilt in Picadilly, or maybe it's a Wall Hanging or Table Topper; that's what I plan to use it for myself!

The Picnic Plaid quilt design is a strip-pieced Granny's Square design, so quick to make with jelly roll strips or even fat quarters, or strips from your stash bins.  Included are five sizes, too.

We have Picadilly Throw size quilt kits currently available in the shop.

The Picnic Plaid quilt pattern is available in the Busy ...

Connecting to Creativity from Quilty Folk

Well, that month went by in a screaming hurry! I ended up spending most all of August with my daughter in Oklahoma. Waiting for her to have her baby and then helping out afterward. So thankful to have the time and opportunity to make it all work out.

The sweet new grandbaby
Meet Miss. Gracelyn May! We just love her so very much. She's a little sweetie and definitely kept us all hopping for the first couple weeks. You know how some babies just take a little more time getting adjusted to the real world. Gotta get the mom ...

Glimmer Baby Quilt in Garden Delights! from Busy Hands Quilts

Today I'm sharing Glimmer, a brand-new quilt pattern in 8 sizes!  Glimmer is the first of five quilt patterns headed your way this Summer and Fall.  They just keep a'coming!

Glimmer is a sparkling design where the colors weave together in a glimmering cascade across the quilt top.  This is achieved by using a lighter and darker hue in each of several colorways.

The Glimmer quilt pattern includes all the sizes and more!  You will love that there are eight sizes in the pattern, perfect for exactly the size of quilt you need.

All the Baby Quilts from Quilty Folk

So I got all the baby quilts done this week, labels and all! It felt really good to get these checked off the list.

Prickly Pears is done!
The first one is Prickly Pears, the baby girl quilt. It's made out of the cut-out pears from behind another quilt I made.
Loving the floral
You might think the gray pears are odd, but I really, really like it! I tried to use brighter, bolder prints for some of these blocks, even if they almost clashed. It ended up with a good cozy vibe and the backing fabric will hopefully ...

Finally, the H2H baby quilts done and mailed from Art In Search

Even though I had sewn the Hands2Help baby quilts for this year's challenge, for many reasons, could not get them quilted and bound in time for Sarah's deadline (Sarah told me not to worry). I did finally get them done and then mailed out using the Give Back box postage plan for Little Lambs of Utah and was relieved. I made one girl one and two boys. I used the same pattern (Scrap Jar Stars), but different fabrics. I quilted each one differently. They are about 50" x 50". I printed the butterfly on the label with a ...

Summertime Happenings from Quilty Folk

Towards the end of June, we left on a 12 day trip. Before leaving, there was {of course} a mad rush to get the quilting sorted out so it would be easier to dive back in later. You know how us quilters think!

Ready to the last little bit of handwork!
The funny thing was, I totally forgot about some of the prep work that had happened and so had to spend some time spinning my wheels anyway. These two little baby quilts had all the hand quilting finished up and just needed some binding attached. Thankfully I found the ...

Trying To Get Things Crossed Off the List from Quilty Folk

I've been hand quilting every evening possible, trying to finish up this improv. strings quilt. It's going to be gifted to a nephew for a wedding gift and time is running out. Not that it has to be given by the wedding date. Oh no. I'm much more relaxed than that. It's just that I don't want to pay postage or risk having it get lost in the mail! So hopefully it will be all wrapped up by next week. Fingers crossed!

Only three more rows to stitch across the quilt!
I have a couple ...

Introducing You to 'Ode to Joy', the Finished Quilt from Quilty Folk

Ode To Joy is a true blue finish! The fourth finish of the year. I thoroughly enjoyed having this one in the hoop and I'm super happy about the finish. Just loving the unique look to this quilt!

Ode To Joy is finished!!
This quilt was started very impulsively one day when I wanted to make another big basket quilt. The applique flower motif was inspired from the darker blue fabric used right about the word 'joy'. Probably should have made the leaves in green, but I was wanting the result to be a nod to the Scandinavian vibe ...

Hands to Help Quilts from Art In Search

Every year I try and complete some quilts for Sarah Craig's Hands to Help Challenge. This year, as last, I will send these 3 baby quilts to Little Lambs when completed. The great thing about them is they participate in a shipping service that lets me ship all them for one low price.
This year, I made one baby girl and two baby boys. I used the same design to make things quicker and easier. For a while, I have been making a scrap quilt called Scrap Jar Stars as a leader ender. When I started it, I made ...

Retreat Report from The Cozy Quilter

Christine and I left early for our quilting retreat with the Oxford Guild this past Friday because there was a winter storm coming and we wanted to get there and be set up before the snow started to fall.  The snow started in the afternoon and kept going all night.  In the morning there was almost a foot of snow (30cm for the metric folks).  We were all snowed in and loving it.  We did not lose power and we had our sewing machines and lots of fabric and projects on hand to work on.  It was a great weekend ...
